The AdDU F.O.C.U.S. (Forging Onwards as a Catholic University in Service): #TowardsAnEcoFriendlyFuture was held on January 25, 2023. Hosted by the University Community Engagement Council (UCEAC) the conversation took place at the Bapa Benny Tudtud Auditorium. The keynote speakers for this installment are Mr. Lemuel Lloyd Manalo from the Interfacing Development Interventions for Sustainability (IDIS) and Mr. Warren Quiñones CTO, Arrupe.
The UCEAC discussed the progress of their current projects, as well as new ideas for future plans. With this, they recognized and celebrated the value of vibrant engagement and community service in line with the One Ateneo, One Plan (1A1P) and the Jesuit Renewed Province Plan (RPP). The event was also live streamed on the Ateneo de Davao University Facebook page for the viewers who could not attend in person.
Ateneo de Davao University welcomed guests from the U.S. Embassy Public Affairs Section (PAS) on January 25 and 26, 2023. They met with the University President, Fr. Joel E. Tabora on day one and visited the American Corner and Confucius Institute the following day.
The American Corner discussed the grants monitoring with the guests, followed by an event called the “Martin Luther King Day of Service: Book Conversation on Mindanao Peace Games (MPG)” with the author, Emmanuel “Coach Noli” Ayo, as a guest speaker. During their visit to the Ateneo de Davao Confucius Institute, they were greeted by Dr. Maricar Gay V. Panda, the Director of the Confucius Institute, who also gave an extensive tour of the new offices and study rooms of the institute.
Guests included Pauline Anderson, the Deputy Public Engagement Attaché (Grants Officer), Jennifer Anne Pascua, the American Spaces Program Coordinator, Paul Thomas, the Regional Public Diplomacy Officer, and Kimberly Jane Tan, the Strategic Public Engagement Specialist.

Dr. Liza G. Floresca, RN, MAN, PhD, DNS, won 3rd Place among the 34 entries nationwide in the First Stroke Society of the Philippines Research Contest. She was also the only nurse who participated in the event with her research: “Caregiver’s Lived Experience on Caring for Post-Stroke Survivors Towards the Development of a Tool and Home-Based Care Model”. The contest was held at the Richmonde Hotel, Eastwood, Quezon City on January 7, 2023.
Dr. Apple G. Alvarez, RN, MN, DNS, received “Best in Podium Presentation” in the 3rd International Conference on Translational Research,”Resiliency and Caring: Strengths-Based Anchor in a Post Pandemic World” hosted by the Central Philippine University on January 18-19, 2023 at the Zuri Hotel, Iloilo City. Her research was titled “Diaspora from Drug Addiction-Sobriety-Recovery: AnInclusive Caring Framework for Drug Reformist”.
The Supreme Court of the Philippines presented the Caguiwow Bar 2022 token to the Ateneo de Davao University on February 1, 2023 for being a local testing center for the November 2022 Bar examinations.
Hon. Leo Madrazo (Deputy Court Administrator, Supreme Court) and Atty. Kyrie Genolos-Morente (Court Attorney VI, ODCA-Mindanao, Office of the Court Administrator, Supreme Court) gave the token of gratitude and appreciation to the AdDU Bar Exam members, Manuel Quibod (Dean of the College of Law), Atty. The Al Qalam Institute of Ateneo de Davao University and the New Zealand Embassy in the Philippines arranged the Manaaki New Zealand Scholarships Programme – Dialogue with Bangsamoro Young Professionals in Davao City on February 3, 2023 at the university campus. New Zealand Ambassador Peter Kell, was invited as an honored guest at the dialogue.
This event was arranged in partnership with the ADDU University Community Engagement and Advocacy Council (UCEAC) and Institutional Communications and Promotions Office (ICOMMP). The conversation was held in person and was also streamed via Zoom and FB Live.
The 5th Research and Publication Recognition Ceremonies is an event that celebrates and recognizes our faculty and researchers for their published works, academic excellence, and pursuit of knowledge. Hosted by the University Research Council, the event was held on February 17, 2023 at the Bapa Benny Tudtud Auditorium.
The University Research Council and University President, Fr. Joel E. Tabora, S.J., gave out the awards to the 287 awardees, many of whom received multiple awards and recognitions. The award categories include Completed Research, Conference Presentations, Published Book Or Manual, Published Article In A Monograph, Editors And Reviewers, And more.
The Ateneo de Davao University (ADDU) welcomed the Education Counsellor of the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China, Mr. Xiong Sheng, in a recent campus visit. During the visit, discussions centered on future collaborations between ADDU and the Chinese Embassy in Manila.
Also in attendance were Mr. Jia Yanpeng, the Secretary of the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China, and Ms. Zhang Yuxue, along with the top officials from ADDU, including University President Rev. Fr. Joel E. Tabora, SJ, Director of the Ateneo Internaitonalization for Mindanao Office (AIM Office) Mr. Romulo Vinci R. Bueza, English Director of the ADDU Confucius Institute Dr. Maricar Gay Panda, and Chinese Director of ADDU Confucius Institute Prof. Shenglin Zhang.
The meeting was a significant opportunity for both parties to discuss potential partnerships that would further improve the academic programs offered by ADDU. The university has been actively promoting cultural exchange programs, and the visit of Mr. Xiong Sheng has paved the way for a deeper collaboration with the Chinese Embassy.
As part of his visit, Mr. Sheng also went on a campus tour to see the facilities of the university and the Confucius Institute. The visit was a testament to the commitment of the Chinese Embassy in Manila to further enhance educational and cultural cooperation between China and the Philippines.
On February 17, 2023, the first ever Mental Health Festival with the theme: “Breaking The Stigma” was hosted by the College Wellness and Testing Center in Ateneo de Davao University. With the goal to break the stigma of seeking professional mental help, the organizers invited 20 different mental health centers, organizations, and experts to participate and provide a better understanding on help seeking behaviors and discussion of mental health issues and problems.

The new architects spoke about their study techniques leading up to the exam, their experiences studying under Ateneo de Davao University’s Architecture Program, and their goals for their individual careers. Ar. Torres and Ar. Palma spoke on behalf of the Architecture Faculty, their plans for the future of the Architecture Program, such as incorporating sustainable designs and the involvement of AI.

Together with some faculty, alumni, and a number of third-year students of the Ateneo de Davao University (ADDU) – College of Law, participated in several medical-legal aid missions in Laak, Davao de Oro, and Marilog District, Davao City.
On 22 July 2023, in support of Good Neighbors International Philippines, the University Community Engagement and Advocacy Council (UCEAC) spearheaded a medical-legal mission held in Brgy. Kilagding and Brgy. Aguinaldo, Laak, Davao de Oro. Some volunteer doctors, nurses, personnel, and staff from the University community took part in this initiative. Legal services were provided by the third-year law students, alongside faculty members and graduates from the College of Law. Their involvement not only extended legal assistance but also offered valuable insights into the legal concerns of the community.
On 05 August 2023, another medical and legal mission community outreach program was organized at Sitio Puting Bato Community, Marilog District, Davao City. Together with UCEAC, this initiative was led by the ADDU Blue Knight Association. Volunteer doctors, dentists, and nurses generously contributed their time and expertise to aid the local community. Several third-year law students, under the supervision of faculty lawyers and alumni, were on hand to provide legal guidance to those in need.
The active participation of these third-year law students is closely related to their Legal Counseling subject, integrated with the Clinical Legal Education Program (CLEP). These students, who are certified CLEP 1 practitioners, are authorized to engage in limited law practice. The CLEP program immerses them in experiential learning with the primary goal of ensuring access to justice for marginalized sectors, enhancing the learning opportunities of aspiring lawyers, and preparing them for the legal profession.
These medical-legal aid missions not only showcase the commitment of the University to community service but also highlight the dedication of its law students, faculty, and alumni to making a positive impact on society.

The Ateneo de Davao University (ADDU) – College of Law through Green Juris and in coordination with Davao City’s Environment and Natural Resources Office (CENRO) successfully conducted a tree-planting activity last 22 July 2023 at Brgy. Eden Summer Resort Reservation Area, Davao City.
There were almost 40 participants in the activity headed by Atty. Kristina G. Tan-Valdez, the moderator of Green Juris. Aside from the students and stakeholders of ADDU – College of Law, representatives from CENRO were also present in the activity. Moreover, the activity has been made possible by the endless support of ADDU – College of Law Dean, Atty. Manuel P. Quibod and Assistant Dean, Atty. Jazzie Sarona-Lozare.
Almost 100 white lawaan seedlings endemic to the Philippines were planted by the participants in the tree-planting site that the City Government of Davao owned. It is believed that planting trees in the said area will help lessen the effect of climate change, mitigate the destructive impacts of floods, and preserve the rich biodiversity of Davao City.
As a legal educational institution, the ADDU – College of Law promotes everyone’s right to a balanced and healthful ecology. It is consistently committed to promoting greener solutions to environmental problems and concerns. Through the said tree-planting activity, the ADDU – College of Law and Green Juris hope that, in a simple and significant way, it was able to impart to the College of Law community the importance of trees in our environment and lives as well as elevate the utmost significance of environmental justice and equity.
On September 14, 2023, the Our Lady of the Assumption Chapel within Ateneo de Davao University held a mass to commemorate the Exaltation of the Holy Cross. Presiding over said mass was Fr. Karel S. San Juan, S.J. with Fr. Joel E. Tabora, S.J. & Abp. Romulo G. Valles, D.D. as Con-celebrants.
This mass would be Fr. Tabora’s final public appearance as Ateneo de Davao’s University President. During his homily, he gracefully hands down his position to Fr. San Juan as well as shared his thoughts and hopes for the future of the university and its community.
We shall forever be grateful for Fr. Tabora’s leadership and wish him well on the next chapter in his rich and fulfilling life.

Davao City, Philippines – In an exciting showdown of cybersecurity skills and innovation, Ateneo de Davao University (AdDU) emerged as the triumphant winner of the Hack4Gov Competition – Regional Qualifiers 2023. The event, held on the picturesque campus of AdDU on August 30, 2023, not only showcased the university’s prowess but also aimed to raise awareness about the critical importance of cybersecurity in the digital age.
The competition drew participation from several esteemed colleges across Region XI, cementing its status as a much-anticipated regional event. Among the institutions that joined the ranks were the University of Mindanao-Digos, Davao del Sur State College, Davao del Norte State College, Jose Maria College, AdDU, University of Immaculate Conception, Cor Jesu College, a third-year student from the University of Mindanao – Main, and another third-year student from Davao Central College.
Three standout teams earned their stripes in a neck-and-neck contest that put participants’ cybersecurity acumen to the test. Cor Jesu College secured the third spot with an impressive 960 points, while the University of Mindanao-Main clinched second with a commendable score of 1,070.
However, AdDU’s cybersecurity virtuosos stole the show, surging to the top spot with a staggering 2,105 points, sealing their victory and earning them the coveted ticket to the national competition slated for this October.
Remarkably, AdDU faced a daunting challenge leading up to the event, as they had a mere five days to assemble their team. Despite the tight timeline, Jerry B. Canale, Assistant Professor for Computer Studies, assumed the role of coach, guiding AdDU’s talents to an outstanding triumph that will undoubtedly go down in the annals of the university’s cybersecurity achievements.
As the regional champions, AdDU now looks forward to representing their institution and Region XI on the national stage, where they will contend for the title of national champions in the impending national competition. With their impressive performance at the regional qualifiers, AdDU is poised to make a significant impact and emerge as a formidable force in cybersecurity.
The Hack4Gov Competition – Regional Qualifiers 2023 served as a platform for showcasing cybersecurity expertise and as a source of inspiration for budding cybersecurity professionals, underscoring the vital role this field plays in safeguarding the digital landscape of today and tomorrow.
On September 28, 2023, the Ateneo de Davao University Confucius Institute held a courtesy visit and campus tour for their guests from Quanzhou Vocational and Technical University (QVTU) and Liming Vocational University (LVU).
Fr. Karel S. San Juan, SJ., AdDU’s University President, met with the guests along with other AdDU administrators such as Mr. Jeremy S. Eliab, Executive Vice President; Prof. Shenglin Zhang, Chinese Director of ADDU – Confucius Institute (CI); Dr. Maricar Gay V. Panda, Filipino Director of ADDU – Confucius Institute; Mr. Jeremy Glenn A. Tuvida, Assistant Dean of the Humanities and Letters Cluster from the School of Arts and Sciences; and Mr. Romulo Vinci R. Bueza, Director of the Ateneo Internationalization for Mindanao Office (AIM) and Member of CI Board of Advisors.
The guests from QVTU were Wu Binru, University President; Wang Huan, International Affairs Director; and Yang Yincong, Publicity Director. Representing LVU was Wang Feng, President; Zhang Qinghai, Vice Dean of the School of New Materials and Shoes and Clothing Engineering; Huang Zhiqing, Deputy Director of the Center for Foreign Exchange; and Zeng Xiaoguang, Chief of the Liaison Department of the Party and Government Office.
The tour was lead by Mr. Vinci, guiding the guests throughout the campus grounds, starting from the Confucius Institute, next the CCFC Building’s 8th floor training room, then the Ignatian Spirituality and Formation Office (ISFO) Office, later the Our Lady of Assumption Chapel, and lastly the Laudato Si Sunken Garden for picture taking.
Later in the afternoon, the AdDU delegation and their guests exited the campus to attend the Fifth Anniversary Celebration of the Friendship Between Jinjiang, China, and Davao, Philippines, at Dusit Thani Residence Davao. At the event, Fr. San Juan and Wu Binru signed the “Cooperative Education Agreement between ADDU and QVTU.” This event signifies both University’s desire for their continued academic cooperation to foster an enriched language learning environment.
Congratulations to our 76 newly Certified Public Accountants! This year, our School of Business and Governance faculty and staff are proud to announce a 47.73% passing rate for first-time test takers. Ateneo de Davao University is currently the largest CPA producer in Mindanao (accounting for 18.91% of the total 402 passers from Mindanao), making them Top 1 in Mindanao.
The university ranks First among Ateneo Schools, with their examinees attributing to 50.33% of the passers from Ateneo schools. AdDU’s overall performance is 64.81% above national passing rate and is the third largest producer of CPAs in the Philippines in terms of number of passers among schools with more than 100 examinees.
Congratulations to Mr. Neshel Gustilo Sinco for becoming a top notcher by ranking 10 with a rating of 88.33% out of 8,734 exam takers overall. Mr. Sinco was a part of our 2020 batch of graduates with a BS in Accountancy and even becoming Cum Laude.

In an electrifying showcase of cybersecurity prowess, the Manila Grand Opera Hotel and Casino hosted the Hack4Gov National Competition Finals on October 16, 2023. Team ADDU, representing Region XI, emerged victorious among a pool of formidable competitors, clinching the coveted championship title.
Team ADDU’s resounding success earned them the privilege of representing the Philippines in the forthcoming 2023 ASEAN-Japan Cybersecurity Capacity Building Center (AJCCBC) Cyber Sea Games, slated to unfold in Bangkok, Thailand, from November 9 to 10. This prestigious competition brings together some of the most brilliant cybersecurity minds from the ASEAN region and Japan. It’s a platform where participants are tested on their skills and provided with an opportunity to collaborate and strengthen the region’s cybersecurity capabilities.
Furthermore, the newly crowned champions have also been extended an invitation to participate in the ASEAN Cyber Shield (ACS), an upcoming capture-the-flag contest scheduled to take place from November 21 to 23 in Jakarta, Indonesia. This presents an excellent opportunity for Team ADDU to prove their mettle on an international stage further and reinforce their commitment to cybersecurity excellence.
The triumphant squad, Team ADDU, is comprised of remarkable individuals who have demonstrated unwavering dedication and exceptional skills in the field of cybersecurity. The members of this stellar team include Mr. Ian Emmanuel Enanoria, Ms. Angelli Kezzed Alkuino, Mr. Shaun Brannon Leonar, and Mr. Reinhardt Benedicto. On September 13, 2023, Ateneo de Davao University, through the Ateneo Migration Center, organized a multi-stakeholders forum and dialogue with Mindanao State University – General Santos City and San Pedro College of Davao. The event happened at the CCFC Building, 8th floor, Xavier Hall Training Room from 3:30 PM to 6:00 PM and was also streamed live through the Ateneo de Davao University Facebook Page.
This dialogue focused on the current situation of migrant workers upon reintegrating into the country after the initial need to return due to the COVID-19 Pandemic. They discussed government resources that could provide long-term protection for the workers and their families and aid from other organizations, such as CSOs/NGOs/POs regarding social services.
During the forum, the Department of Migrant Workers OIC-Regional Director Atty. Angela Librado-Trinidad, Ms. Eunice Azalea N. Sindian of OWWA XI, Prof. Anderson Villa, Ph.D. of MSU GSC, and Dr. Erwin Faller of SPC Davao were esteemed speakers at the event.
Ateneo de Davao University is honored to be Ranked 6th among the Top Performing Schools in the Philippines during the October 2023 Chemical Engineers Licensure Examination. Our graduates have spent months preparing to take on this exam, reviewing nonstop months prior. With their hard work and dedication, 28 of our First Time Exam Takers passed with an 87.50% rating. AdDU’s Overall Passers would also reach similar results with a Passing Rate of 81.58%.
